Have You Seen? {January 1, 2017}

Welcome to Have You Seen? We’ll review last week and share other posts from around the web. Enjoy rest and renewal while you cozy up for some soul-food reading.

We are so close to the goal. Thank you. This is your last chance to Continue the Story and then come next week, we will trust that what has been provided is what is needed to prepare us for 2017. When you open your hands and ask God to fill them, it is risky, isn’t it? You know it is, because you live this life too. But given that another option is to grab and hoard, that’s not who we are, all of us in Velvet Ashes. It is not who we want to become. It is not the God we love and hope to reflect. With your prayers and finances, we truly are in this together. Thank you :).

Last Week’s Theme: Prepare

The Pony Engine {Book Club} by Amy Young—”I loved it because even though The Pony Engine and the Pacific Express was written about 125 years ago, I could picture a dad with his two kids. They ask him to tell them a story and he does, as dads and moms have been doing the world over.”

Private Preparation: The Value of Showing Up In Your Own Life by Emily Smith—”David was not out in the fields with his sheep preparing for the day he would go head to head with the Philistine army. God didn’t tell him that he needed to fight two lions and three bears before he was ready to advance to greater tasks. David was obedient and faithful with the job in front of him. Because of this, he was ready when the time came to fight Goliath.

Preparation in the Waiting by Sarah Hilkemann—”Right now, preparation looks like grace, allowing myself to feel all the feelings, being kind to myself in the ups and downs of another transition, finding ways to breathe and slow and relax.”

Standing on the Cusp {The Grove: Prepare} by Amy Young—”Regardless of whether 2017 holds big changes or not, we know this is true for each one of us: God is in the business of preparing us for what is next. Even if this looks like a ‘normal’ year before you, know that you are not forgotten by God; He is preparing you for what this year holds.”

From Around the Web

Yep — I’m still an ugly American(a must read this week!)

A Weary Year.

The Gifts I Didn’t Want.

If your year has been a flop.

Finally, Amy’s top 15 books in 2016.

And Now for Next Week

The theme is . . .

“O sisters, let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down
O sisters, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray”

We’re starting this new year off with a call to prayer.

What prayers are stirring in your heart for 2017? As you listen to the stirring, what do you sense God is saying to you?

How will you carry the prayer this year? Is there an image or a practice that helps you fix your gaze on Christ?

Come on down with your words and images about “prayer. ” in the post comments, and let’s share on   Share a pic on Instagram of what helps you to prepare and use #VelvetAshesPrayer. Then at the week’s end, we’ll see you at The Grove beginning on Thursday at 6pm EST.
