Have You Seen? {July 12th, 2020}

Join Denise, Velvet Ashes Executive Director, and Sarah, Program Coordinator, for this week’s Facebook Live Chat! We’ll be discussing the topic of navigating medical needs overseas. Join us live on Thursday, July 16th at 9:00 AM Eastern over on our Facebook page!

Last Week’s Theme: Processing

In the Breaking, Look Up by Beth Barthelemy—”So often, I am sure you relate, when the tears start flowing, there isn’t a singular cause. There is much simmering on the back burners of my heart and mind, all day, every day. How to explain this to these eight, beautiful blue eyes looking curiously at me?”

Creating Space to Listen to Each Other {Book Club} by Sarah Hilkemann—”Living isolated in 2020 has reminded all of us about the importance of our people, of investing in community. Sometimes we take our teammates for granted, and it is easy to see the hard parts of team until we lose the connection that comes from doing life together.”

Processing God by Joy Smalley—”I love the words of God. I love reading through the stories and seeing how God has historically met fellow humans. It gives me grace to know that life wasn’t simplistic for anyone, even the founders of faith, even the men after God’s own heart.

The Burdened Outcast + Blueberry Muffins by Ashley Felder—”Race discussions are nothing new to us. We have them as a family, although because our mixed kids don’t experience as much discrimination (in a language they can understand…yet—more on that later), we let those conversations and questions come up naturally.”

The theme is…

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLT): So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.

Reflecting allows us to create a grace-filled space to look back at our experiences. It’s like looking in the rearview mirror of our lives, of this season, and asking for eyes to see the good, the unfortunate, the lessons, the gifts and the joy.

This month we want to journey together as we pause and digest all that has happened in the world and in our personal lives. Will you walk with us?

Are there specific ways you are reflecting on your journey in 2020 so far? How are you inviting God to reveal lessons and gifts along the way?

Share your reflections this week on social media with the hashtag #VelvetAshesReflecting.
