Have You Seen? {October 11th, 2020}

Last Week’s Theme: Here I Am

Kicking Off Retreat Week by Danielle Wheeler—”For many of us, ‘here’ is not where we long to be. And yet, here we are. Have you had the time and space to process with God? What is his invitation for you in this season?”

Telling a New Story {Book Club} by Sarah Hilkemann—”As cross-cultural workers, we get that we need to understand the ethnic story of the people we are serving among. We might learn or be aware of the ethnic scars in those places or the ways that redemption is needed.”

No Strings Attached by Sarah Hilkemann—”You are going to get to see God’s glory displayed, His power at work in a way you can’t even fathom. But you have to say yes.”

A Response to ‘Here I Am’ by Jenilee Goodwin—”This year has renewed a hunger for simple things, heightened the desire to experience the calming presence of Jesus, and brought a new fervor to stand on the promises of God’s Word in ways that impact my life and those around me.”

And Now For Next Week

The theme is…

“All to Jesus, I surrender

All to Him I freely give”.

Ever feel like you would rather take it all back?

Please, Jesus, I don’t want to let go of this dream, this plan, this small comfort. It’s too much.

If you heart echoes this prayer, or ever has, you are in the right place. We talk about the joys and celebration of the daily graces of overseas life, but we don’t sugarcoat it. When we walk this journey with the Father, we know that it will require surrender.

In a year of so much loss, how are you processing surrender? If you were part of the Unplugged “Here I Am” retreat this last weekend, did showing up for time with Jesus reveal things that need to be surrendered? Join us for some real and hard and joy-filled conversations on the blog this week. We love getting to read your words and hear your hearts as you share, so make sure you tag us @velvetashes or use the hashtag this week #VelvetAshesSurrender on social media.
