The Grove Word Prompt: Keeping Watch

keeping watch

Luke 2:8 “And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.”

The shepherds were just out doing their thing.

Not far away, a miracle baby entered the world and this was no longer an ordinary day. Suddenly, it was glorious.

This season of Advent reminds us of waiting. We wait while we are carrying out our daily tasks, caring for children, making food, leading others. And while we wait, we watch. We watch over our loved ones and our partners, over the work of our hands and our hearts. We wait and watch – sometimes with hope, sometimes with expectation, other times just because it is what we have been doing day in and day out for so long we don’t know how to do anything else.

The Christmas season can be crazy, but this week let’s pay attention. It might mean slowing down to examine our hearts. What are we watching? What is going on in our hearts as we wait? There’s richness in store for us this week, ladies! Make sure you read along and comment, and join us at the end of the week for The Grove. Share your moments of keeping watch this week on Instagram with the hashtag #VelvetAshesKeepingWatch.
