Our team is exploring more ways to bring in-person opportunities to women serving around the globe. In October 2026, the Velvet Ashes team (Sarah, Denise, and Danielle) will be walking the Camino de Santiago along the Portuguese route in Spain. We will be led by two women who have also served cross-culturally and who have already walked the Camino.
Created and established in the beginning of the 9th century, the Camino de Santiago, or Way of St. James, became a major pilgrimage route for Christians and others. While people have walked the route for many reasons through the centuries, we are approaching this pilgrimage as an opportunity for women to connect with one another and with the Lord. Walking provides space in the brain and body for processing and listening to God, and there are so many lessons in the concepts of journeying, the path, perseverance and more.
Our team is walking approximately 65 miles over 5 days in order to experience this pilgrimage for ourselves and ask the Lord if this might be an experience we could offer to women serving on the field in the future.
Through generous donors, most of our expenses for this pilgrimage experience in October are covered, and we are so grateful! But with the rising costs of airfare, each person on our team needs to raise $1500 to cover our travel to meet up in Spain to begin walking.
Would you consider partnering with me and with Velvet Ashes to get me to Spain for this pilgrimage?
