Jennifer

After 10 years in China, and 3 years of confusing re-entry, I settled into a position of instructor and eventually academic coordinator of an intensive English program at Valparaiso University. Our main student populations are Chinese, Saudi, and Iraqi.

Hi! My name is Jenifer! I am a 26 year-old, single, expat living in Northern Zambia. I have served here in Zambia (2011: 3 month internship) and also in Northern Italy (2011-2012). I have always lived and/or worked in non-profit (I am also a PK/MK) and after some pretty bad experiences I told the Lord I was about done working in ministry. Then He called me back to Zambia where the team is strong and loves each other well. I am excited to be a part of this team and to connect with other women serving around the world.
I have just begun my two year term (though I am expecting it to be longer) with the same wonderful people I met four years ago doing an internship. We live in a small rather remote village where you can’t get things like chocolate and cheese. I am one of two Americans living in this village working with the nationals to see the Gospel spread around the world.
My official jobs are Personal Assistant to the Leadership Team as well as Outreach Coordinator. Unofficially I’ll be working in Personal, IT and other Admin duties. I love meeting new people, learning a new language and sharing with others about God’s grace, mercy and forgivess.

I am serving one of the language communities of the Philippines (dispersed geographically throughout the southern Philippines) as a literacy and education specialist… learning language, developing relationships, looking for ways to support and build up educators within the language community, working on research for a graduate degree, and trying to love people well. I find it hard to balance all of these things, but I’m thankful for the richness and variety of my life and work here! I’m also in a serious, long-distance relationship and we are seeking the Lord about when we might marry and how to merge our lives. Right now, the future holds a lot of uncertainty and the day-to-day is challenging me mightily. In short, I need the Lord Jesus!

Transitioning “across the big pond” again, for the first time in years, and as “empty nesters”. Knowing the Lord is with us, needing to keep living moment by moment for Him as my goal .

I live with my family, homeschool my kids, and work with children in a special needs orphanage.

I am currently living in a new-to-me small town in Minnesota, working half-time here and still volunteering for the team I worked full-time with in Haiti. I was overseas full-time for six years, first in South America. A friend suggested this group to me even though I’m now more in the US than not, since I have moved at least every three years for the past 17 years, with all but one of those moves being to a new-to-me place. (I’m currently living in a city of 5000, and before this my last city was by far the smallest place I’d lived at 100,000 — the cultural adjustment process continues!)

I am living in China at the moment. I love reading things on Velvet Ashes. I love learning about what other people are doing in their expat lives through the many transitions and phases of life. I am always excited to meet people.

I am in the application process stage, feeling led to go to Dublin, Ireland. I am so excited to find this site.
