I grew up in Michigan in the United States. I came to Beijing in September 2014, and will be staying until called somewhere else. Right now I am studying Chinese.

WOur family works with Deaf in a small town in Belize. This is our first overseas opportunity we are learning and growing. My husband is an asl interpreter. He also works with the government to help train interpreters here.

My husband and I are Australians who have been in Japan for 15 years. We’re with OMF International. My husband teaches high schoolers at a Christian International School. I do a bunch of stuff, but my biggest ministry is as a magazine editor for a magazine that is for and by overseas workers to Japanese people. We have three school-aged boys, so that is also a significant ministry. I write on my blog almost every day and have had more than 50 articles published in a variety of venues.

I am single, over 60, and from California. For the past 6 1/2 years, I’ve been serving the Lord at a school for MK’s, started a women’s ministry at a local church, and whatever else the Lord brings me to do here in the Philippines. Velvet Ashes has been a life-line for me as I have no family here, and since the rest of my team left, it has been very “cross-cultural” for me.

Charlie and I moved to Ghana in 2006, with our then teenage sons, Chip and Ken. A civil engineer by training, God called me to help provide water and sanitation in rural villages throughout Ghana, while Charlie teaches at Ashesi University. I work in partnership with Methodist Development and Relief Services, a development NGO of the Methodist Church Ghana. I am also the Managing Director for Pure Home Water, a manufacturer and distributor of ceramic pot filters for household level water treatment. I am the African Regional Consultant for our sending agency, The Overseas Society, and I love helping our colleagues find placements here in Africa and helping them grow in fruitfulness and faithfulness. Charlie and I love knowing that we are following God’s plan for this phase in our lives!

Kate grew up on West African rice and soup and Mississippi sweet-tea, but has learned to love Central Asian kebabs with hot chay. She lives with her husband and three very active little people in a fascinating city where East meets West. She spends a lot of her time stepping on legos, chasing naked toddlers, and retrieving items that fell of her 4th floor clothesline. She also likes to write.
