The Grove Prompt: Overcome

Doing a quick search for verses on “overcoming,” most refer to God being the overcomer. Too often though, we think we have to or will be overcomers. To a sense we are. To a sense we are not in the ways our supporters or culture (maybe even the voice in our heads) says we should be.

So, this week we are going to hold a small camp fire around the idea of overcoming.

What have you overcome this summer?

What does it mean to be an “overcomer” in Jesus?

What do you hope God will help you overcome in this season?

Join us by adding your own thoughts in response to this week’s posts. Don’t miss The Grove where you can link up your own blog posts on this week’s theme.

Plus, we’d love to see your photos on Instagram this week using #VelvetAshesOvercome.  Images will appear automatically in The Grove and one will be selected and featured in our weekend “Have You Seen?” post.

Overcome would be the perfect word to sum up our first year and a half on the field: earthquake wrecked the home we lived in for 10 days, move to another where we had a landslide, lived through petrol and good shortages caused by a blockade, walked to language school because of said shortage for 3 months…

BUT WE HAVE LEARNED THE LANGUAGE! Miraculously! We have purchased land for a camp and rented a building to start a church. God has not stopped working amidst all the challenges, and by His grace, we are overcoming!
