This Week’s Theme – Wait

It’s just about summer in the northern hemisphere, which is often a season of liminal space for cross-cultural workers. What are you waiting for right now?

  • A warm embrace from a family member
  • A circle of friends
  • A year’s worth of doctor, dental, vision, and counseling appointments
  • Financial support to come in
  • Presentations to make
  • Clarity
  • Inspiration
  • Renewal
  • Relief

In Invitations from God, Adele Ahlberg Calhoun writes that waiting is an invitation from God to let go of my need to control people and circumstances so I can trust that God is at hand and be present in the moment as it unfolds.

Summer feels so short, so we can easily yield to the pressure to cram it with people, places, and purchases. The result is often that the goodness of the moment gives way to stress, fear, excess, or loneliness though surrounded by loved ones.

But waiting has the ability to work our hearts wide open.

What awareness helps you remain in the present moment? What Scriptures accompany you in the waiting? What roadblocks do you encounter when you have to wait?

Bring your thoughts, art, and stories for Wait to The Grove beginning on Thursday at 6pm EST. We’ll be waiting for you there.
