Connection Groups: September to November 2022 FAQs

Connection Groups are coming soon! Here are some of the most common questions about Connection Groups.

1. What are Connection Groups?

Connection Groups are online small groups for women living cross-culturally. Unlike talking to friends back home where you have to explain so much of your life, when you sign up for a CG, you are joining a small group of women who get your life, allowing you to go deeper more quickly than you might in other contexts.

2. What is the difference between the types of Connection Groups?

In general, we have five types of groups: Video Chat, Facebook, Text Messaging, Video Messaging and Email.

Video Chat is one of our preferred methods because it allows you to actually talk with other people! Many of us are isolated and not able to have these kinds of conversations. Video chat groups meet once weekly at a set time.

Facebook groups are popular because we know some of your internet is not reliable enough for video chat or you travel or prefer the flexibility. Facebook groups discuss through posts and comments in the private group throughout the week.

Email groups will be available for those of you not on Facebook or who prefer to communicate through writing.

Texting groups use a texting app such as WhatsApp or Signal to share throughout the week. The facilitator will prompt discussion and members can text back and forth.

Video Messaging groups use an app like Marco Polo to share throughout the week. The facilitator will prompt discussion and members can send quick video messages back and forth.

3. How long do the groups run?

The groups this session will run for 8 weeks. They will start the week of September 18th and run through the week of November 6th.

4. What does it cost?

This is a fun answer. Absolutely Free!

5. Who leads these groups?

These groups are led by women just like you. Some are currently living overseas. Some have returned “home” and continue to have the desire to connect with and support women in this cross-cultural life. All of these women have seen the value of connection and been willing to step up and lead.

6. What are my commitment expectations?

Each group is limited in size, which is why if you sign up for a group, we need you. We know that you may be in a place where you have nothing to offer, but you desperately need connection. That is more than okay! That is why we have Connection Groups. But it isn’t a place to sign up to just watch others be a group.

Video Chat groups are a commitment of the hour(ish) meeting time a week. The Facebook, Email, Texting and Video Messaging groups allow you to connect and comment several times a week. Some of the topics are deep. Some are more light-hearted and fun.

We do want to make sure we have as much space for women to sign up as possible, so please only register for one group!

7. Is there a topic or theme for the discussions?

Each week is based on a theme with discussion questions and prompts, ranging from life overseas to our spiritual development and just for fun topics.

8. When is registration and how do I sign up?

Registration for all groups begins on Tuesday, September 13th at 9:00 am Eastern (13:00 UTC).

Registration will be available on our Connection Group page and is a quick process where you choose your group and provide a little bit of information to help your facilitator know who you are.

9. Can I be notified as more details about Connection Groups become available?

You sure can! Click here to check out our Connection Group page, and click on the link to sign up to be notified. We’ll send you an email reminder when groups are updated so you can check out which group you might want to be a part of, and a notification reminder when registration is happening.
